Croptober commemorates the yearly harvest of cannabis flowers cultivated in outdoor settings. This observance reflects the customs of agricultural communities that have long revered the bountiful crops nurtured by the land and sunlight over many generations. Marijuana cultivators unite with their fellow growers as they gather the results of their hard work to distribute among a broader audience. During the month of October, outdoor cannabis plants in the Northern Hemisphere typically reach their peak production and maturity, signaling the prime time for harvesting. While there are certain strains that may start flowering a bit earlier in September or continue into November, it's estimated by Weedmaps that approximately 80% to 85% of cannabis varieties are typically ready for harvest during the traditional October timeframe.

After months of meticulous preparation and nurturing of their cannabis crops, outdoor growers will predominantly focus on activities like harvesting, drying, curing, and trimming their freshly cultivated cannabis. Following these processes, a portion of the cannabis from outdoor cultivation finds its way onto retail and delivery menus, enabling consumers to eventually enjoy the benefits of Croptober as well.

This is an exciting period for consumers, as the abundance of cannabis products often translates to better prices and special promotions. Recently in Michigan, prices have seen a small influx this summer in regards to the illegal transporting from black market distillate into the legal market. What this means is more biomass from Michigan was used to make MORE distillate for Michigan in order for cartridges and edibles to be produced. This change left Michigan with no shake, trim, or smalls in the $50/oz region and instead drove pries upward to $80/oz for the consumer. The demand for legal distillate initially drove cannabis prices back upward. What croptober can do for Michiganders this fall is it ushers in a range of new strains to the market, offering enthusiasts a delightful opportunity to explore new horizons. For connoisseurs, the influx of freshly harvested cannabis is a genuine pleasure and will hopefully keep prices low across the board.
Cannabis is an annual plant, meaning it goes through just one flowering period in its life cycle. It must be cultivated from seed or clone to maturity each season. Although different varieties may have slightly different maturation rates, outdoor crops typically reach their peak during the autumn harvest season.
However, growing marijuana correctly can be a demanding task. Some producers opt for controlled environments, such as climate-controlled warehouses. While this approach presents its unique challenges, it allows for year-round harvesting by staggering growing cycles. Greenhouses are another method, essentially blending elements of outdoor and indoor cultivation.
In 2017, outdoor cultivation accounted for roughly 58 percent of the statewide production, while greenhouse growing made up about 33 percent. Thankfully, the Croptober celebration encompasses all forms of cannabis, making it a comprehensive tribute to the world of marijuana flower.

As the legal cannabis industry continues to evolve, it becomes increasingly important to commemorate notable events, such as 420 (April 20th), Oil Day (July 10th), and Croptober (the entire month of October). Since full legalization is not yet available nationwide, these observances play a significant role in normalizing cannabis use and fostering mainstream acceptance.
Cannabis producers have wholeheartedly embraced these celebrations by providing discounts and introducing new products during the Croptober season. Fresh flower varieties are introduced, sometimes in limited quantities, so it's advisable to act promptly. Special promotions also extend to a wide range of cannabis products, including extracts, edibles, tinctures, topicals, and vapes. Due to legal restrictions on publicly advertising sale prices, it's a good idea to subscribe to your preferred dispensary's email and text notifications.
